Made in Canada? Made in Canada!!
This whole tariff thing has made us reassess some things. We have always preferred to use Canadian suppliers for practical reasons like lower shipping and currency-related costs, as well as value-driven ones, like supporting our local, regional and national economies.
When we began customizing t-shirts and other garments, we knew we wanted to avoid supporting the worst practices of the garment industry, so we did a lot of research about labour- and eco-conscious production. It seemed that the best-quality tees and sweats in the right price range were from US-based companies that used overseas production. We’re still thrilled with the quality and fit of the Bella Canvas tees and Independent Trading Co. fleece that we chose!
When we took another look around earlier this year, we found that we could get similar garments that are entirely made right here in the GTA. Aside from the cotton that can’t be grown in Canada due to climate, every other step - knitting, dying, cutting, sewing - is done in Canada by fairly-paid workers in a company that is committed to sustainability and stewardship. You can read more about Jerico here.
Now that we know these great-quality options exist, we will be switching to them for our customizable tees, sweatshirts and tanks. It will take some time to change all of the product info and we will still use the small amount of inventory we have when suitable.
Check out our Elbows Up collection for updated, all-Canadian garment styles and sizing! In fact, we’re pretty stoked about the new boxy tee style!
